MUFF x Christie Pits Film Festival
You guys already know about Christie Pits Film Festival, right?! They are consistently one of our favourite film events in Toronto! They have rad programming, tasty eats, PWYC (Pay What You Can) screenings, and they are BYOBlanket! This year’s theme is STRANDED! In Christie Pits and it features films where characters are “trapped physically and metaphorically, by circumstance, society, and their own foolishness.”
Situated on the lush grassy hillside of Christie Pits Park, CPFF will be screening films every Sunday night this summer from June 26th to August 28th. All films start at sundown, but there are delicious food vendors starting at 6:00 PM, so make sure to get your butts and blankets there nice and early!
Here’s where it gets really good though: MUFF is teaming up with Christie Pits Film Festival not once, but TWICE this summer! The MUFF Society will be co-presenting CPFF’s screenings of I Put A Hit On You on July 24th and Meek’s Cutoff on August 14th.
I Put A Hit On You
Dir. Linsey Stewart & Dane Clark
I Put A Hit On You is a lo-fi romantic thriller about a brokenhearted woman that teams up with her ex-boyfriend to try and stop the hitman she accidentally hired to kill him. It will be preceded by two local short films: Long Branch, which is also directed by Linsey Stewart and Dane Clark and which was a favourite of our past Mini MUFF programming, and The Lamp, directed by Trevor Juras.
Dir. Kelly Reichardt
Meek’s Cutoff is a slow-burning western drama about six settlers in a dangerous situation: lost, with dwindling supplies, and lead by a guide who refuses to admit they’ve gone off course. It will be preceded by the local short film The Surveyors, directed by Chris Romeike.
