The MUFF Society

A feminist community that celebrates women in film/TV.

The MUFF Society is a feminist screening series and community based in Toronto that aims to champion women in film both on and off screen. We do this through a variety of initiatives, including a short film program (miniMUFF), conversation series (Reel Girl Talk), documentary series (HER-Story), and blog.

We have some big news. Our little MUFF is turning ONE! To celebrate this joyous time of year we turned our programming over to YOU in a poll on our Facebook page, and you guys chose the amazing Ghost World for our December screening!

If you hate pseudo-bohemian losers and parties that are so bad they’ve gone past good and went back to bad again, then join us on December 16th for our very special birthday screening. Although Ghost World is written and directed by men and based off of a comic book by Daniel Clowes, he so effectively captured teen-girl angst that he was repeatedly accused of following young girls with tape recorders. (How insane is that?!) These characters are elaborate, interesting and well developed, making this film a perfect MUFF worthy screening! Also, hi, we can never get enough of Scarlett Johansson and Thora Birch.

As always the film will be preceded by our local short film program Mini MUFF with the glorious World Premiere of Star Princess. Director Nicole Dorsey will be in attendance! We also will have our photobooth pre-show fun and TONS of fantastic prizes thanks to our amazing sponsors! So bring your 1977 original punk rock looks, figure out what Satanists do, and try to relate to 99% of humanity with MUFF because you give us, like, a total boner.

A big thank you to our MUFF Friends & sponsors of this event: Carlton Cinema, The Beguiling, The Candy Bar, Cinefilles, Coal Miner's Daughter, Paintlounge, Marigold the Clown, and The Secret Loves of Geek Girls.
