The MUFF Society

A feminist community that celebrates women in film/TV.

The MUFF Society (Monthly Underground Female Film Society) is a feminist community based in Toronto that celebrates women—both on and off screen—in film and television. We accomplish this by by providing our community with stories of interest, news about local women-centric films and events, and writing/profiles on our blog.

From December 2014 to December 2017, The MUFF Society hosted a monthly screening. Read about our different initiatives below.

MUFFxTO was our original series. Each bimonthly screening was accompanied by raffle prizes and a fun pre-show with a pop-up shop featuring local female artisans, a women-centric playlist inspired by the film, and a photobooth with props.

miniMUFF was our short film program that paired local, women-made films with the MUFFxTO feature and also profiled the filmmakers on the MUFF Blog

Reel Girl Talk was our quarterly conversation series that pairs a film with an intimate and critical post-film conversation from noted community members. [Read more here.]

HER-Story was our quarterly documentary series that screens both features and shorts, focusing on Canadian filmmakers and topical subjects. [Read more here.]
