MUFF x Half Baked

MUFF x Half Baked

Oh hey. Siân here. You might remember me from such MUFF screenings of yesteryear like Punisher: War Zone, and Josie and the Pussycats. I moved to London (the far away one) for nearly two years and haven't been to a MUFF screening in ages. So not only was our April MUFFxTO screening extra awesome because, duh, Half Baked, but also because I got to go! And I know how that thrills each and every one of you.

We were pretty damn excited to get to screen Tamra Davis' stoner comedy classic Half Baked. We'd also been wanting to do a 4/20-ish screening in April for years! Years I say! I mean, when else would we have a chance to make a giant blunt as a photobooth prop. Right? RIGHT.

It also gave us a chance to craft maybe our most epic speech bubble ever: the munchie bubble! Just looking at it made me hungry. But not for Funyuns because those are gross.

For our Pop-Up, we had three amazingly talented artisans. I basically wanted all of their things. All of them! But I had to remind myself that the last thing an unemployed person needs is a nekkid Leo DiCaprio pin. (Being a grown-up sucks sometimes.) Please go give these women your love, support, and all of your monies: Shanna with NoGoBed/Scumland, Amy with Art by Amy May, and Sabrina with Blood Club

We often say that a lot of magic happens at a MUFF screening and this time was no exception. Gather 'round for this lovely story: one of our sponsors, Glory Hole Donuts, gave away a pair of tickets on their Instagram page. The woman pictured above in the rad weed leggings (yesssss), Tracy Curley, won. And instead of simply attending like one would expect, she asked if she could donate a raffle prize! It was an absolutely amazing prize too: a print copy of Twelve High Chicks magazine. We highly (ha) recommend checking out the mag.

Continuing on with the magic was our absolutely hilarious and magical miniMUFF short film, The Path. Our miniMUFF programmers Nicole and Andrea were really excited about this short and thought it fit with the absurdity of Half Baked perfectly. Director Emily Jenkins and DOP Justin Black were able to attend the screening too! They talked about the process making the film and even told us about the next project they're working on. Keep on eye out for more about that new project from us! And if you want to learn more about Emily (of course you do) read our miniMUFF profile

But wait, there's even more magic! Tamra Davis, director of Half Baked and all around awesome woman, was able to film a little video intro for our screening! It was pretty damn special. If you weren't at the screening, sucks to be you! But also, we love you. Here are some questions Tamra graciously answered for us that you can read instead.

I couldn't have picked a better screening to come home for, basically. The only thing that could've made it better would have been cookies OH WAIT WE DID HAVE COOKIES! Alicia of Ain't She Sweet not only crafted us gorgeous Half Baked themed cookies for a raffle prize but she also brought cookies for the whole audience! Everybody got their munchie on and all was good in the world.

And on that note, I will end this lovely recap by thanking all of the amazing MUFF Friends and sponsors that helped make this screening happen: Imagine Cinemas Carlton, The Beguiling Books & Art, The Candy Bar, Condom Shack, TOA Print & Promote, Cheap Thrills Co., Danny Does Digits, Butt'n Booty, Glory Hole Doughnuts, Ain't She Sweet, and Shanna Van Maurik
