MUFF NYC x Tank Girl
The MUFF Society NYC rang in its fourth screening at Videology with the ass-kicking, mischief-loving Tank Girl on September 17!
With our tables decorated with enough comic book “blam!” and “pow!” to take out even the toughest opponent and tiny water (& power) guns, our lovely guests settled into their seats, poking their heads into our portable photo booth and noshing on popcorn while they waited for the show to begin.
To kick things off, our cute-as hell-host and MUFF Producer Lindsay introduced our partners at Big Vision Empty Wallet who rolled up to tell us about their current mission to aiding women and minorities in the film industry through Writers Labs (with the next one in Costa Rica!) and diversity incentives. Learn more about them here.
Next up, we raffled off some tickets to REAL GENIUS, courtesy of our friends at Nitehawk Cinema as part of their indispensable She Made It film programme! Following up that prize was hard—so we went straight for our certificates from Williamsburg MMA that promised to show our MUFFians how to kick, climb and fight their way through the entire month!
We were thrilled to screen Stryka, a short film that inspired our choice to screen Tank Girl, featuring a lady alien thief in a futuristic Brooklyn. (Trust us, it’s as amazing as it sounds.) We were so lucky to have writer/director/all-around perfect human Emily Carmichael in attendance, along with a few members of the cast and crew, including special effects whiz Matt Thompson! Stryka screened to much applause, and caused one of our attendees to deem it their new favorite short film.
Before we knew it, Lori Petty was cracking wise (and necks), and we couldn’t help but cheer along as she took down Professional Bad Guy—um, we mean Malcolm McDowell, in a blur of well-timed jokes and even better timed jumps from runaway trucks.
To finish things up, we thanked everyone for coming with a last raffle for prints by Grace Lang and Tara McPherson from our partner Cotton Candy Machine, who graced us with gorgeous art of equally gorgeous ladies. Thanks so much ladies!
This event was a blast, and we can’t wait to do it all over again at our upcoming screening October 15th when we screen Ginger Snaps! And don't forget to join our FB Group for NYC specific updates!
