MUFFDates: Summer 2017

MUFFDates: Summer 2017

We know, you've all been waiting for our Summer 2017 announcement. Have you been feeling lost without it? Likely. And for that, we are incredibly sorry. We were held up waiting to confirm one of our films and late spring is always a busy month for us, what with Hot Docs and all. But we think this will be worth the wait. Our Summer 2017 is super varied, which is just the way we like it! Because, you know, women can be involved in any and all kinds of films.

In any case, it is here and you are reading it right now! Yes! Are you ready? Without further ado:

Death Proof - June 14th

Yes, this is a week away. And yes, you have likely already heard we are screening this iconic Quentin Tarantino film. We've been waiting for a chance to celebrate the incredible work of editor Sally Menke and we thought Death Proof would be absolutely perfect. After all, it does feature an incredible car chase and stunts by actress/stunt performer Zoë Bell. It doesn't get more badass than that! Join us next week for the screening. We'll also have our usual photobooth, MUFFmix playlist, and raffle prizes. For mini MUFF, we are celebrating Pride Month with Sarah Rotella's You Say Good Morning At Midnight. Also, we'll be featuring these rad artists at our pop-up shop: Kaylee with Lady No Brow, Aida with Aida Collection, Elize with Elize Frances Art, Sarah with Sooper Slooth, and Jenn with Jenn Woodall Art.

A Prison in Twelve Landscapes - July 12th

HER-Story returns in July with a screening of Brett Story's award-winning documentary A Prison in Twelve Landscapes. This incredible documentary explores how prison affects those incarcerated and also how it impacts local communities. The film has screened at festivals like Hot Docs 2017 (where it won a Special Jury Prize), True/False 2016, Camden Film Festival 2017 (where it won a Special Jury Mention), and DOXA 2016 (where it won Best Canadian Feature). After the film we will be presenting a panel with special guests. You don't want to miss a chance to see this important doc, folks!

It Takes Two - August 16th

Yup, this is what we were waiting to confirm. AND YOU KNOW WHAT?! Totally worth it! We've made a habit of our August film being a nostalgic throwback, what with screening Now & Then in 2016 and All I Wanna Do in 2015. We were thinking of how we could top that and nothing even comes close to Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen's It Takes Two. Written by Deborah Dean Davis, this seminal 90s flick is about the entirely believable idea that two girls who just "happen to look alike" bump into each other in the woods and hilarity ensues. And did we mention Kirstie Alley and Steve Guttenberg? Anyway, we better see you there or we'll send you to the Butkis' house!
